Steve Harvey Took A Bullet For Miss Universe Mishap

BURBANK – APR 26: Steve Harvey at the 42nd Daytime Emmy Awards Gala at Warner Bros. Studio on April 26, 2015 in Burbank, California

It has been more than a year and a half since Steve Harvey, 60, announced the wrong name for the winner of Miss Universe.

Today, Steve Harvey is defending himself for that embarrassing and difficult moment once again. Recently, Harvey told reporters during the Television Critics Association press tour that he took a bullet for many people for that mishap. He also said that he was a smart guy and that he could hear and read and and did what he was told to that day.

In December of 2015, the Family Feud host made a mistake when he announced that Miss Colombia, Ariadna Gutiérrez, had won the Miss Universe contest. Moments later, Steve Harvey returned to the stage to amend the error made and to give the crown to Miss Philippines who was the real winner.

Harvey recalled that even though the mistake was caught, executives of the show told him to stay silent until situation could be corrected the next day. Executives asked Harvey not to go back on the stage and told him that they would fix everything in the next day in the papers.

Harvey said that he thought he could rectify the situation and went out there on the stage to fix the problem. Harvey wanted things to be resolved that evening and wanted the right winner to be crowned that night, so he went back on the stage. If Harvey had known that he was going to left holding the bag, he says he would have never gone back out there.

Even though, Steve wishes that someone had taken the blame for writing the wrong name on the card, he says that some good came from the situation. Harvey’s name and brand did not permanently suffer from that mishap. Plus, he has many successful television shows including Family Feud, Celebrity Family Feud and Little Big Shots.
