Ronnie Woods Receives Cancer Diagnosis and Fears the Worst

Rolling Stones guitarist, Ronnie Woods discussed his recent cancer diagnosis with the Daily Mail’s Event magazine.

Recently diagnosed with lung cancer, the guitarist feared it would mean saying ‘goodbye’. The cancer was discovered during a routine checkup before heading out on tour with the Rolling Stones.

Wood was lucky, however; as the early diagnosis allowed doctors to remove part of his lung along with the tumor. The five-hour operation was considered a success, and Wood is grateful his doctors were able to find and treat his cancer early.

Ronnie Wood is a 70-year-old British Rocker who for a week thought his life and career were hanging in the balance as he didn’t know how the cancer diagnosis was going to affect him. He felt this could have been curtains for him and a time when he would have to say ‘goodbye’ as he didn’t know what was going to happen.

Wood had expressed concern about his health at the routine checkup. He states his life contains 50 years of chain-smoking and many other bad habits. The doctor offered to a more thorough check, and Wood agreed. With a look at how he had lived, Wood wasn’t all that surprised with the diagnosis.

When asked by his doctor after discovering the supernova burning in his lung what he wanted to do, Wood told him, “Just get it out of me.” Sally Humphreys, Wood’s wife, was a solid support throughout the process and helped keep the diagnosis out of the news so no one else would suffer like they were.

Wood advises everyone to get checked as he was lucky by catching his condition early. “By rights, I shouldn’t be here,” he states, ” I was bloody lucky”. He will continue to be checked every three months and encourages others to do the same.
