Late night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel, 49, updated fans when he recently told reporters that his son Billy visited his set and is doing well.
Kimmel’s wife Molly McNearney gave birth to their son on April 21. Ten days later the comedian shared on his ABC talk show that his son had a rare heart defect and had heart surgery when he was just three days old.
The 13-minute monologue was deeply heartfelt and bought Kimmel to tears when he announced that his newly born son was recuperating at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.
Kimmel wanted the announcement he made on his show about his son to have a positive effect. Therefore, he decided to incorporate the healthcare debate into the monologue. The comedian said he thought his monologue did have an impact on millions of Americans but admitted that he was unsure if it had any effect on the Senate and House based their vote to repeal Obamacare.
The comedian revealed that President Barack Obama, 56, contacted him and thanked him for speaking out about healthcare. He also said that Obama wished him and his family well.
It turns out that Obama was not the only former President to contact him after he shared the news of his young son’s health crisis with his audience. Kimmel said that President Bill Clinton and President George W. Bush both sent him letters.
Kimmel says he would like to talk with President Donald Trump on his show about healthcare. Trump did not reach out to Kimmel.
Jimmy Kimmel told reporters that his young son will have to undergo two more additional open heart surgeries. He also said that he and is wife are very anxious for their son’s upcoming surgeries to be done and over with.
Kimmel admits that even though he is nervous about his son’s health, he is quite aware that the situation could be much worse.
