Academy award nominated actress Jessica Chastain, 40, is upset with CBS due to the absence of leading female characters in the network’s new fall lineup of shows.
She retweeted a story from the Wrap that pointed out that CBS is not picking up any shows this fall with female leads. Jessica also added that she will not watch CBS and will turn to other avenues for entertainment such as Netflix or HBO. She also added that there are so many better options out there than CBS for entertainment.
The Wrap reported that the senior executive vice president of programming for CBS Thom Sherman revealed that CBS had developed shows that had female leads, but those shows were not picked up by the network.
During the Television Critics Association press tour, Sherman said that it was felt that the pilots that included women were not as good as the ones featuring male leads. Sherman also said that is the way it happens in television from time to time and that the omission of shows with women was not intentional by the network.
Jessica has spoken out against discrimination against women’s roles in Hollywood before. In April of this year, she revealed to Vanity magazine that she will no longer take any more roles where she is not paid the same amount of money as her male costars.
She revealed in that interview that before she commits to a role in film or television she asks if the pay will be fair and if it compares to her male costars.
