The James Franco you see on the big screen is quirky, upbeat, and full of life. But not everything is what it seems like on the big screen.
Franco recently sat down with a reporter from the magazine OUT, where he talked about life before acting and dealing with the struggles of depression and addiction.
“I have a very addictive personality,” Franco recounted with OUT. Franco admitted that he got over his addictions, and that was the start of his acting career at the age of 17.
From then on, Franco explained that he was a career- minded individual. He didn’t have time for friends and to socialize.
The experience made Franco miserable. He couldn’t take it anymore until one. At 27 years old, he described that he was “so depressed.” to the point where he says he was feeling isolated and lonely.
Franco then decided to turn a new page in his life, and start a new chapter. Franco said he was tired of going through the motions of work, work, and work.
He became involved with his new hobbies, Hip Hop Dancing, and Surfing. Franco describes it as his therapy in helping him cope with his life and career.
Franco is directing two episodes, as well as dual starring in the HBO series, The Deuce, which will premiere September 10.
In related James Franco news, it was announced by the Toronto Film Festival, that James Franco’s “The Disaster Artist” will be featured in this years line-up. The film festival runs September 7-17.
Keeping his calendar busy through September, Franco will also star in a horror-thriller, The Vault. The movie is about a bank robbery gone wrong. While the robbers are haunted by a downstairs vault in the bank building. The Vault will be released in the U.K. on September 8.
Franco has also revealed by a press release, that he is creating a YouTube channel called, “Philosophy Times.” Franco described the project as the “most important project” he has been a part of. The channel will aim to help people deal with life.
