Shemar Moore left his hit CBS drama series Criminal Minds after eleven years. Even though, Moore was not looking for work when he left, it did not take the talented actor long to land another network television role.
He was on vacation when he got word that producers of the series SWAT wanted to meet with him about a new television role.
At the 2017 TCA Summer Press Tour, Moore explained that he took the role because executive producers Shawn Ryan, Aaron Rahsaan Thomas and Justin Lin, promised that the series would deal with real-life issues like terrorism and racism. In addition, they told Shemar that the show will explore diversity and will cover Black Lives Matter as well as current headlines from the news.
There is one thing the show will not do and that is to preach to the audience. Moore assures viewers that his new series will be thrilling to watch. Shemar revealed that he joined the show because he was looking for a series that would be interesting and would help viewers gain compassion, patience and understanding. Moore believes SWAT can achieve that goal.
Shemar also thinks it is the right time for the series. The show is based in Los Angeles and will look at and cover current news headlines and will reflect what is going on in the world. He expects SWAT to explore both sides of an issue covered and to generate debate. Moore does not expect the show to solve or fix any issues but hopes the show will shed some light on them.
SWAT promises to be diverse, timely and political and to give viewers something they can relate to. If audience reactions to the pilot episode, which have been overwhelmingly positive, are any indication of how well the show will do, it seems the series is destined to be a huge hit. SWAT will premiere on November 2 at 10 PM on CBS.
